The past two weeks for the Cavaliers have reflected the weather in Cleveland: cold, dark and unforgiving. After having the entire country on their side going into the matchup against you know who and then figuratively defecated on by you know who, the wheels have fallen off the wagon. Dan Gilbert’s squad are currently in the midst of a eight game losing streak where the collective sum of defeats stands at 156 points (or 19.5 per game).
Their latest contest pitted them against the University of Oklahoma City Thunder. The headlines are plastered with Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook, and for well deserving reasons. Yet, they’re a squad full of talented young players with one of them being former Arizona State standout James Harden. The scene is set like most other fast break moments with a miss, a rebound, and a sprint to the opposite basket. This is exactly what happens as Harden and his Freeway/Rick Ross-esque beard elevated to what I’m sure will go down as one of the season’s best in-game dunks. Give Hickson credit because he didn’t give up on the play, but for pride purposes, he probably should have.
To compound problems, however, Cleveland’s next game is in Miami on Wednesday. The scheduling gods are something else, I tell ya.
And of course, if it’s dunks we’re talking, the league leader in that category, Blake Griffin, isn’t far behind. Compared to what he has done previously this season, this is tame. But tame from this guy is still more aggressive than most mere mortals. Vote Blake Griffin for the 2011 All-Star Game.
