Michael Smith, of Norridgewock, Maine, was awoken by Maine State Police at his home Tuesday morning using a megaphone to call for him to surrender himself, backed up by state troopers with assault rifles in his driveway. What could this man possibly have done to warrant such a serious response from law enforcement? Well, previously that morning, Smith had been woken by tree removal workers, which he had yelled at, shirtless, to get off his property.
Still seems harmless enough, right? Oh, yeah — Smith also has a tattoo of the life-size handgun on his stomach, positioned on his body to simulate the look of a barrel of a gun being tucked into his waistband. Dohhhhhhhhhh.
Smith did have a gun. It was tattooed on his stomach. No charges will be filed against Smith. Several police standoffs with armed men have occurred in central Maine in recent years, some of them deadly.
“Obviously it was a misunderstanding and he didn’t have a weapon, but we had to respond to the initial report as if he did,” Maine State Police Trooper Scott Duff said. “We take all precautions when we don’t have the details.”
“I got plans today. I didn’t want to get shot,” Smith said shortly after the scene was cleared by police.
I love how his response to the whole situation is all, “Yo dawg, I don’t want to get shot. I gots plans today!” Never change, life-size stomach gun tattoo guy. (See photos here.) On the plus side, if there’s a positive thing we can take from this story it’s that Justin Bieber just got handed his next tattoo idea. Bizzle what!
