U2 is the 1%.
That is not an exaggeration: MIDiA Consulting uncovered that the the top 1% of all artists earn 77% of all recorded music income, which means your Metallicas and Fleetwood Macs of the world make BANK, while [fill-in-the-blank indie rock band with a pun name] struggles to make ends meet. This wasn’t always true of U2, of course: back in 1979, they were rejected by the ill-fated RSO Records for not being “suitable.”
RSO Records, which folded in 1983, was doing the world a solid. We were almost spared “Beautiful Day.”
