A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay – September 16th

After our zombie fueled detour, we return to Gamma Squad’s regular Friday comic book cosplay feature, spotlighting the best superhero (and villain) related costuming from the cosplay community. With the season of cons upon us and hobby costumers demonstrating their art, there are many cosplayers whose work we’d like to give credit to.
Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.
The themes for this month is:

  • September: The DC Reboot
  • But in the meantime, let’s continue with this week’s selection!

Terra Cosplay by CarlaDawn on Deviantart. Source: Deviantart

The fate of the new Terra, Atlee, is unknown in the rebooted DC universe, but it seems we’re not alone in being fans of the character from the Power Girl book. Great cosplay of the character here from CarlaDawn.

Every now and again, you come across a cosplay that’s so staggeringly awesome, words desert you. That’s the case here. An utterly incredible Doom. Doom is pleased.

Black Mary Marvel cosplay by marvelsapphire of Cosplay Island. Source: CosplayIsland.co.uk

Countdown may be a distant memory, but the evil Mary Marvel concept seems to have legs. This cosplayer certainly pulls off the look.

Cyclops cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by DalaiMickey. Source: Flickr

Ultimate X-men’s Cyclops is brought to life in this cosplay from this year’s Dragon*Con. He’s a popular character, but it’s the work on the design that makes this cosplay great.

Dawn cosplay by Ms. Mars. Source: Flickr

The goddess of birth and rebirth gets the cosplay treatment in this impressive turn by Ms. Mars. Absoluterly amazing work.

Red Skull cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by leepus. Source: Flickr

This Red Skull’s made an appearance before here on Gamma Squad, but with his rearing his ugly head once more at this month’s Dragon*Con, we couldn’t resist featuring this awesome costume once more.

Catwoman cosplay by Gillykins on Deviantart. Source: Deviantart

Selina Kyle’s had a number of looks over the years, but the Darwyn Cooke redesign seems to sticking around. For good reason too, as Gillykins shows that this costume looks great in real life as well as on the page.

Will Eisner’s The Spirit Cosplay by Valerie Perez. Source: Myspace

The big screen adaptation of The Spirit might not have done Will Eisner’s creations justice, but it’s good to see some cosplayers who do, with this fantastic cosplay of P’Gell and Denny Colt.

Spider-girl cosplay by esques on Flickr. Source: Flickr

May Parker’s fans ensured her Spider-girl book lasted way beyond her allotted time, so it’s good to see that enthusiasm for the character translated into cosplay.

Batman and Robin vs Bane at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by leepus. Source: Flickr

We like to think that this is Damian Wayne and it’s a case of “like father, like son”. Batman’s cosplayer certainly seems to be encouraging this particular rumble.
