While Frank Ocean has been grabbing most of the headlines lately with his album’s early release, Hip-Hop heads will be happy to know that underground rap favorite Aesop Rock also has a new project out this week. Skelethon, Aesop’s sixth and latest studio LP, is an unsurprisingly dense record that takes cues from the rap, rock, and punk scenes referenced on second single “ZZZ Top.”

Along with the scene-specific, at times alt-rock-leaning production, early album highlights include “Fryerstarter” (in which a visit to Bob’s Donuts in San Francisco is turned into a religious experience), the near tragic narrative of “Ruby ’81,” and hearing Aesop describe his childhood aversion to vegetables on “Grace.”

Stream Skelethon in its entirety below, and head over to Rhymesayers’ Youtube page for track-by-track insight into the album from Aesop Rock himself. The album is available now on iTunes and Amazon.
