Chrissy Teigen is known as a lively and often hilarious presence on Twitter, whether she’s defending her close friend Kim Kardashian from trolls or laying waste to the biggest troll of them all. But occasionally the Lip Sync Battle host’s tweets, which tend to run political, bring out the worst of the internet, and this 2016 election cycle has been hard on all of us. During Tuesday night’s Vice Presidential debate, Teigen tweeted simply, “Man. Imagine having to defend Donald’s EXACT statements. Not an easy task.”
Now, this wasn’t unreasonable. Since the debate, there has literally been video fact checking all of the lies Mike Pence told to defend Donald Trump’s statements. But as usual, more than a handful on Twitter responded with vitriol, and Teigen decided to just shut it down. When asked by one of her fans if she had made her account private, she responded:
This isn’t the first time Teign has abandoned social media. Two years ago, after receiving death threats for tweeting a sarcastic remark about America’s gun problem, Teigen took a hiatus from Twitter. (A short-lived hiatus, because she was back to tweeting hot takes about turkey just a month later.) Maybe she’ll make her account public again after the ugliness of this election is over.
