Crazy Nic Cage Sells Comic Book for Crazy Amount

The comic book industry may be rapidly fading into oblivion, but it’s not all doom and gloom — a tiny handful of comics printed over 70 years ago continue to fetch ridiculously inflated prices at auction! Hooray! A copy of Action Comics #1, the comic featuring the first appearance of Superman, has just sold for $2,161,000, making it the first comic book to sell for over two million dollars.

This isn’t just any old two million dollar comic either — this funnybook has been around. The comic used to be owned by Hollywood’s highest-paid insane manchild, Nicolas Cage. The comic was stolen from Cage in 2000, and wasn’t recovered until 2011 when it was discovered in a San Fernando Valley storage locker. How many people Cage killed to recover his treasured comic is unknown, but it was probably a lot.

Unfortunately Cage’s troubles with the IRS means the comic wasn’t allowed to return to the place it belongs — sitting amongst piles of dinosaur bones in the treasure keep of one of Nic Cage’s castles. No, Cage had to put it up for sale, and no doubt its colorful history contributed somewhat to its record two million dollar selling price.

As an aside, Nic Cage makes around 20 million dollars per movie. The most valuable comic ever made — worth approximately as much as 10 minutes of Nic Cage acting.
