Donald Trump announced his return from his trip to Asia with a pair of tweets on Tuesday night. The second tweet said it was great to be back in the USA — like the famous Chuck Berry tune — and was a positive way to end his Asian adventure. But it was unfortunately undermined by the preceding tweet sent from the president’s account that sent condolences about the wrong mass shooting.
While sending well wishes to the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas is a good thing for the president to do, the shooting did happen close to a week ago. Not mentioned is Tuesday’s shooting in Northern California that left five dead and ten injured after a domestic dispute, though most hope that the president just make a slight mistake.
The tweet was still live as of publication, staying live for at least two hours that led to plenty of speculation for people online who had dreams of covfefe dancing through their heads. While the response to this gaffe doesn’t seem to be as large, you could also chalk it up to the general exhaustion with the Trump parade at this point.
May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan.

The one theory that seemed to make the biggest impact is that the president or his team keep a template ready for these type of events, literally just copying and pasting a previous message:

My God be with the people of [insert next mass shooting location here]. The FBI and Law Enforcement *have* (correct grammar mine) arrived. #GunControlNow #TrumpIsAMoron

Jesus, he copy pasted his response to a mass shooting and forgot to change the location.
What a clown.
And, the FBI and Law Enforcement HAVE arrived. https://t.co/dM6kdu3fzL

Did u just copy & paste this & forget to change the city?

Other folks decided to ask why this response is coming so late and where the response to the Northern California shooting might be, with many hoping that the “FBI and Law Enforcement” arrived there too:
This tweet was sent 2 hours ago.
The shooting in Sutherland Springs happened on November 5th, which was 9 days ago.I hope the FBI and law enforcement didn’t take that long to arrive. https://t.co/8bYtCg0iuO

Those poor people in Tehama County, California. You sent the FBI and Law Enforcement to the wrong location. https://t.co/oGgkyOWaly

The FBI and Law Enforcement are slow. Your tweet verifies that it is time for #GunControlNow.

May God be with the people of Bowling Green. The FBI and Law Enforcement has arrived.

May God be with the people in the War of 1812. The FBI and Law Enforcement has arrived. https://t.co/0jEYQwbsmo

And in typical fashion, most people were quick to call out the president’s grammar usage:
The FBI and Law Enforcement *HAVE* arrived. Learn proper English!#Trump#DonaldTrump #shootings#LearnProperEnglish#ResistTrump https://t.co/CxskYMdg40
— Dianna Maria (@DiannaMaria) November 15, 2017
“The FBI and law enforcement have arrived.” Why is the correct usage of grammar beyond the reach of this man?!

Your president can’t even use proper grammar .. “The FBI and law enforcement HAVE arrived.” https://t.co/CajWiDMhO7

In the end, nothing about this should be surprising at this point. The president and his team will be sure to do something new tomorrow to cause outrage, plus there’s the announced big announcement that’s about to happen and the eventual comment by Trump on the Roy Moore scandal.
Still, this is the type of small mistake that just defines a moment it seems and how the people in charge actually view that moment.
