California School Celebrates Black History Month By Serving Fried Chicken And Watermelon

With Black History Month comes people being extremely idiotic. A school near San Francisco decided to celebrate Black History Month by changing their food menu to the most racist possible combination of black stereotypes. Via News 96.5:

Leaders at a private school for girls near San Francisco are apologizing after serving a controversial meal selection during their celebration of Black History Month.

Students at Carondelet High School for Girls in Concord, California, were offered a lunch menu fried chicken, cornbread and watermelon.

“When I first saw that, I was confused. I didn’t understand why our school would do this because we’re totally against that kind of stuff,” junior student Gianna Scoma, tells KPIX.

Just think about it: A group of school officials sat around in a room and discussed this, agreed upon it, and then made it happen. Could this have been more blatantly racist?

Gabby Simones, a junior at the school who is Latina said, “On Cinco de Mayo we would have probably had enchiladas, rice and beans.”

Robert Jackson, a teacher at Acts Christian Academy said offering fried chicken, cornbread and watermelon is different, because the food goes back to the history of slavery. “We talk about soul food because it was actually food we used that was left over from the master’s table and we used it to restore our soul and restore our hope.”

What we can learn from this is to probably think things over before going through with an idea. If you haven’t been paying attention to, I don’t know, every stand-up comedian doing a hacky racist joke, you’ll know that bringing up these foods, let alone serving them, is obviously a bad idea.
