Gillian Anderson Wants To Believe You’ll Buy Her New Series Of Sci-fi Novels

Gillian Anderson, the forever-crush of every nerd who came of age during the 90s, is writing a series of sci-fi novels (with co-writer Jeff Rovin). The series, called The EarthEnd Saga, will kick off sometime this year with A Vision of Fire. The book’s main protagonist is Caitlin O’Hara, a child psychologist who treats kids who have been traumatized by disasters and war. According to Anderson, the character eventually encounters a kid whose suffering from a very different kind of trauma…

“Over the course of spending time and helping her and investigating the origins of the girl’s trauma, Caitlin begins to realize that the girl’s behavior is tied to much greater forces in the universe, and as the story unfolds, she must prevent destruction on a grand scale.”

So yes, the book’s plot is very later-season X-Files and this Caitlin sounds very much like a character Gillian Anderson might play. Anderson more or less admits she’s trying launch her own sci-fi franchise…

“Our goal is to write a great series of books. But the opportunity is quite large, and hopefully we can create something that translates well into other media. I tend to act in more heady stuff. Period films, dramatic, tortured heroine things. So this could be something interesting and fun that can be added to the mix of things I do.”

Translation: Okay, I’ve proven myself as a non-genre actress, time to grab some more nerd dollars before I get too old. Not that Anderson would ever be too old for my nerd dollars — actually, she’s the anomaly that seems to get more attractive the older she gets.

The curious case of Gillian Anderson.

Listen, I know The X-Files wasn’t real and all, but real-life Anderson was always a little sniffy about the sci-fi thing back in the day. My heart can’t help but be little warmed by the fact that Agent Scully is finally starting to believe.
