WARNING: Spoilers for the season finale of Gotham follow. Proceed with caution.
The finale of Gotham did not introduce Harley Quinn despite plenty of rumors that we were heading in that direction. What it did do is kill a major character — just for a bit — and give fans a glimpse of The Dark Knight within Bruce Wayne.

Bruce got to do a few major things during the show, showing how strong his bond is with Alfred in the process and creating an uncertain future with Ra’s al Ghul heading into season 4. But it’s a scene at the end that set the stage that got fans thinking about his future in crime fighting, taking a familiar pose that some pointed out instantly:
"I don't know who I am, Alfred. Who am I supposed to be?" – Bruce #Gotham

You've a long way to go Bruce, but standing on rooftops and watching the city is a good place to start. #Gotham pic.twitter.com/y7zHhgpxmS

Now all of this comes after a very tense situation with Ra’s al Ghul that resulted in Alfred taking a sword to the chest. The immortal baddie wants to make Bruce his heir or “knight in the darkness” and has him take out the butler while in some sort of trance.

Don’t worry, it doesn’t last long. There’s some Lazarus Pit action and a hospital visit soon after, but Ra’s al Ghul does make some hefty threats about “summoning” Bruce in the future. It’s certainly getting crowded in Gotham, but the “knight in the darkness” might be coming sooner than later to start cleaning up the streets and making fans happy.

The show also gave fans a little taste of the classic Catwoman, giving Selina Kyle a whip to fool around with. She got part of her Catwoman origin earlier in the season, but now she’s cracking the whip and making people think about Michelle Pfeiffer:

Not a bad way to close out the season. While it’s doubtful we’ll see Batman before the series comes to a close, it should be cool to see Bruce Wayne learn the early ropes and hit the streets.
