Meanwhile, In Florida: Congressman’s Wife’s Leaky Breast Implant Postpones Bigamy Trial

From John Mayer’s alleged shenanigans to the end of Mariah Carey’s marriage to the dude from Drumline, divorce can be a messy business. Obviously “messy” and similar words are used metaphorically to describe such legal proceedings, as there’s no actual “mess” to clean. However, the Associated Press reports Florida congressman Alan Grayson’s ongoing divorce shenanigans embraced the word’s literalness when his wife’s leaky breast implant delayed her bigamy trial earlier this week:

Lolita Grayson had been suffering chest pains. When she went to a hospital to get checked out, she was told she needed emergency surgery to remove the leaking implants and scar tissue, according to court papers filed this week. (Via NYT)

Wait. What? Not only did the soon-to-be-ex-wife’s silicone-induced medical complications earn her a brief legal stay, but the trial itself isn’t for the divorce she originally sued for. Rather, it’s part of her congressman husband’s legal response:

Lolita Grayson sued her husband for divorce last year after 24 years of marriage. But Alan Grayson says the marriage was invalid because she was never divorced from her first husband at the time of their union in 1990.

Lolita Grayson says she was divorced.

The delay is the latest twist in the contentious divorce proceedings between the Democratic congressman from Florida’s 9th District and his wife. (Via NYT)

Meanwhile, executives at Lifetime are probably biting their knuckles in anticipation of the trial’s outcome and the ensuing rights war. Here’s to hoping the resulting Lifetime Original Movie is titled Bigger Than Bigamy.
