OK, we’ve all seen The Amazing Spider-Man, right? Specifically, we’ve all seen the ending cookie. If not, we’ll discuss it below. Heavy, heavy spoilers from this point onwards, folks.
Everybody who doesn’t want to be spoiled out? Yes? Good? Onward.
So, the ending has Curt Connors stuck in a cell. Rhys Ifans has this to say:
Capone: Okay, what do you think about that ending?
RI: Well, Connors is basically locked up in a very high-security mental institution.
Capone: We were debating whether it was a prison or a mental institute.
RI: It’s not a zoo. [laughs] I kept seeing it as maybe a mixture of both. Then a representative from OsCorp appears miraculously in the room. How he gets in there and how he leaves, we don’t know. Maybe we will find out. But it’s not Norman Osborn.
Capone: It’s not? You can say that?
RI: Yeah. But it is someone who is in the employ of Norman Osborn without question.
Capone: Someone we’re familiar with, who we don’t know is employed by Osborn?
RI: Yeah.
So, basically, that leaves us with a pretty short list of Spidey villians who this could actually be. Let’s see here: older gentleman, ties to Norman Osborn, ties to Peter’s parents and their genetics work…
My guess? Professor Miles Warren, aka the Jackal.
If you know the character’s history, it makes sense: Warren goes insane after the death of Gwen Stacy and goes after Spider-Man. Genetics obviously play a pretty heavy role in what Sony’s already pushing as a new trilogy. Warren is a geneticist. We all know Gwen’s going to die. And the movie and the game make a pretty big deal of the whole transgenics thing.
Granted this could be completely derailed by Sony, but it feels about right.
