“Let’s Invite Lupe To Perform At The Inauguration” Said Someone Who Just Lost A Job

Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say shit
That’s why I ain’t vote for him, next one either
I’ma part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people.

– Lupe Fiasco, “Words I Never Said”

There was a time when Lupe Fiasco was the shining beacon of conscious rap. He was Hip-Hop’s hope of intelligent music. If Obama were elected a week after Food & Liquor dropped, then Lupe Fiasco would have been a perfect choice to perform. In 2013, though? Lupe has transformed into Loopy and part of his persona is being totally bizarre and anti-convention because f*ck you that’s why.

So last night, during performance on Inauguration weekend, Loopy was kicked off stage for what many are calling an “anti-Obama rant. Reporter Josh Rogin shared his account: “Lupe Fiasco just got thrown off stage here at the Hamilton Live after he went on an anti-Obama diatribe mid set,” Rogan tweeted. “So Lupe played one anti-war song for 30 min and said he didn’t vote for Obama and eventually was told to move on to the next song. Lupe refused to move to the next song so a team of security guards came on stage and told him to go.”

The promoters of the event Startup Rockon, gave their side:

Lupe Fiasco performed at this private event, and as you may have read, he left the stage earlier than we had planned. But Lupe Fiasco was not “kicked off stage” for an “anti-Obama rant.” We are staunch supporters of free speech, and free political speech. This was not about his opinions. Instead, after a bizarrely repetitive, jarring performance that left the crowd vocally dissatisfied, organizers decided to move on to the next act.

So Loopy – the rap game Andy Kaufman – performed the same song for 30 minutes about Obama refused to move on. This is Lupe in a nutshell. He’s someone who apparently cares so much about Obama and freedom and whatever he cares about that he wants to perform the same song for 30 minutes but he doesn’t care enough about these things to actually record enough material to fill up a 30-minute set. See how that works? Still, the onus has to fall on anyone crazy enough to ask Loopy to show up at an Inauguration event and expect him to not act like a bat-sh*t crazy troll. That’s just being silly.
