Here’s The MC Hammer Video Game We’ve Been Deprived Of All These Years

Remember when MC Hammer had his own merchandise line (including an MC Hammer doll and a Tiger LCD game) and a Saturday morning cartoon? Did you know he was also the protagonist of a Sega CD game which was never released? Given the super catchy name of Hammer vs. Evil D. in Soulfire, it was developed by GTE Entertainment, who pioneered the 3D game Time Traveler. That pioneering spirit didn’t seem to be used in the making of the MC Hammer game, as evidenced by the demo video below. They really should have combined the two games as Hammer Time Traveler: Too Legit For 2D.

Sega cancelled the game before its planned release date in 1994. We’re venturing a guess that it was cancelled because it was 1994. That’s four years after “U Can’t Touch This”, three years after “Too Legit To Quit”, and the same year we mentally categorized MC Hammer as a creepy uncle after the hilariously grape-smuggling video for “Pumps And A Bump”. They simply waited far too long to Turn This Mutha Out.
