Muppets Most Wanted doesn’t hit theaters until March 21, but the promotional blitz has been underway for a little while now. This Lipton commercial is one of my favorites to this point though, portraying the citizens of New York as a bunch of Animals, literally.
Now why Kermit and Ms. Piggy are not Animal versions of themselves is beyond me, but it doesn’t have an effect on my enjoyment of the commercial. What does bother me is the insistence on using Harry Nilsson’s “Everybody’s Talking” as the theme to the commercial.
Is Kermit turning tricks on the street corners? Am I going to catch him giving Fozzy a handy j in the local grindhouse? Is he living with Oscar The Grouch attempting to claim insurance on a hapless Animal taxi drivers? No, no, this is just all wrong. My mind isn’t ready for this.
