Smoke DZA – “Marley’s Garden”

02.06.12 6 years ago

While much of the world is blazing a birthday blunt in memory of Bob Marley today, who’s more qualified than Smoke DZA to release a tribute song to reggae’s fallen warrior? However, “Marley’s Garden” isn’t a sad remembrance at all. Quite to the contrary DZA goes in over Melo-X’s energetic, upbeat production and the Harlem rapper’s opening interpolation of a couple well known Biggie lines from “Hypnotize” is a good look too. According to George Kush, “Marley’s Garden” originally was going to be placed in an official project, but ultimately it was deemed that February 6 was too appropriate a day to pass up. And it was the right call to make because the end result is a smooth joint with clever lyrics that’ll both leave stoners and sobers alike to reminisce over the Tuff Gong’s untimely passing.
