Over the weekend Salma Hayek posted a heartbreaking tribute to her beloved 9-year-old dog, Mozart, on her Instagram, after the dog had been found shot on her Washington State ranch with a bullet close to his heart. In her post, Hayek wrote that Mozart was a “loving and loyal companion” that never bit or attacked anyone in their nine years together, and never strayed from his territory.

But now Hayek’s neighbor has confessed to the shooting of her dog, although he tells quite a different story. The neighbor claims that not only did Hayek’s dogs frequently wander onto his property, but would also regularly attack his own dogs. He also says that the shooting had been an accident, and that he had only intended to scare them off. As a result authorities will not be pressing charges over the incident.

The neighbor told cops… several of Salma’s dogs were in his garage on the day in question … and he used a pellet gun to scare the animals away. The neighbor said he had no intention of killing any of the animals and cops also believe the pellet gun ordinarily would not be lethal.

That’s a tough situation. Obviously it comes down to he-said, she-said, with details likely being left out on both sides. If this neighbor had a long-standing problem with Hayek’s dogs, one would hope that he would have gone to local authorities or even Hayek herself before dealing with the situation like Yosemite Sam.

Sadly, there are no winners here.
