Stephen Colbert Is Donating $800,000 To Fund School Projects In South Carolina

Stephen Colbert’s just made a lot of South Carolina teachers and students very happy. Just in time for “Teacher Appreciation Week,” the comedian made a live announcement at a surprise event on Thursday, stating that he plans to fund every existing grant request S.C. public school teachers have made on the non-profit education crowdfunding site DonorsChoose.org.

These grants will be funding everything from classroom supplies and school uniforms to teacher development and new books. His partnership with DonorsChoose will fund roughly 1,000 projects for over 800 teachers at about 375 South Carolina schools which brings the total to $800,000. Not too shabby.
