Tales From Nike’s Innovation Kitchen: The Free Edition

As a big fan of ingesting otherwise pointless sneaker info, I save a warm spot in my heart and a sliver of space in my noggin for Nike’s “Tales From The Innovation Kitchen” cartoons. As a follow-up to last year’s Hyperfuse Edition, the latest animated entry highlights the work of Tobie Hatfield*, Innovation Director of the Innovation Kitchen, and how barefoot training excursions led to the creation of Nike’s Free sole**.

And if you really want to get your hands dirty, check out the second clip featuring Mark Miner, the designer of three, recently launched Free models, and watch as he explores the creative process behind the collection.

*He’s also Tinker’s brother, a fact that was completely lost on me until now so I ended up learning that info as well.

**I also gained a little more insight to the Swoosh’s insistence on applying the Free sole on older models when they create hybrids. From a tech and performance POV, the sole’s an upgrade.
