Here’s A Supercut Of Anti-Drug PSAs In 80s and 90s Sitcoms

By / 10.17.11

You guys, you probably already know this, but drugs are bad. BAD, I tell you! They can make you do things that you’ll later regret, or perhaps even die from. How do I know this? From an endless stream of anti-drug PSAs engrained into sitcoms of the late 80s and early 90s, i.e. my formative years. As you may recall, these were often referred to in promos as “very special” episodes — “Be sure to tune in next week for a very special episode of Saved by the Bell” — presumably because they were so utterly retarded.

Yes, watching this supercut by the fine folks at Pleated Jeans reminded me how disappointed I’d be to tune into my favorite show at that time as a kid and have the plot revolve around some asinine anti-drug message. It was always such an “okay goddammit I get it!” bummer to be beaten over the head with the “Say No to Drugs” campaign once again — and we all know how amazing effective that was!

I imagine that anti-drug shows were the thing to do when all the writers on a show went on a weekend bender and creativity was in short supply. “Hey let’s just take the week off and appease some people politically at the same time.” Because this guy had a lot of influence on the kids, you see…
