From Sabres to Gold Records: 10 Awards You Can Buy Online

By / 03.01.12

Have you been looking to spend over $580,000 on a useless piece of Hollywood memorabilia? Sorry! You’re too late. Yesterday, according to Reuters, “Fifteen Oscar statuettes…sold for a total of $3 million at an online auction,” including $588,455 for “Herman Mankiewicz’s statuette for best screenplay, which he won for co-writing the 1941 film Citizen Kane with Orson Welles.” Much to Judd Apatow’s dismay.
(Fun fact: the Best Picture Oscar for Gone with the Wind was sold to Michael Jackson in 1999 for a reported $1.54 million, which, in auction terms, means it’s half as awesome as Mark McGwire’s 70th-home-run baseball, which Spawn creator Todd McFarlane paid $3 million for. Money well spent.)
But if you’re in the market for a used award, eBay has got you covered. This is a list of 10 awards and certifications you can purchase on the auction website. Some were given to entertainment celebrities, others to military leaders – but they’re all wildly expensive, and TOTALLY (not) WORTH IT.

Award: “RARE Elite Pilot award from Chinese Air Force Academy”
Price: $99,999.99

“It is very hard to find the information, but I will fill you in some history before the Flying Tigers movie coming out soon. This is presented by Chiang Kai-shek, which is top honor to only few and best pilots off the Air force Acamedy, so pesumasubly, there is only few around. It is 7 3/4″ plate and 1/2 inch thick, weighs at 2.6 pounds which is pretty heavy!
The backbone of the Composite Wing consisted mainly of Chinese fliers. But a great number of American pilots were sent to China. They fought the Japanese wing to wing with their Chinese colleage. There were American and Chinese commanders at every commanding level of the CACW. The closely meshing of the US and Chinese fliers in this unique fighting force in the air also reflected the excellent cooperation between the two countries.

Bonus! You can also buy the “authentic embellished suede, sequins, and beaded brown pants worn by Faith Hill at the 1994 Country Music Awards.” I know, I’m so excited I can’t BREATHE, either. (Sorry. But I only have so many go-to Faith Hill references.)
