Grand Valley State University Removed Its Wrecking Ball Sculpture Thanks To Miley Cyrus

Wrecking Ball

In probably the least shocking college story of the summer, school officials at Grand Valley State University have decided to take down a sculpture of a large steel ball attached to 15-feet of steel cable because it resembles a wrecking ball. “Wrecking Ball” is also the name of Miley Cyrus’ new hit single and video which features her naked on a wrecking ball. Put two and two together – please, I failed College Algebra twice – and what do you get? A bunch of naked students trying to swing on the steel ball like America’s favorite twerker.

GVSU officials claim that the removal of the sculpture is a safety precaution, but I’m pretty sure it also has a lot to do with a bunch of bros mushroom stamping what’s supposed to be art.

“We really do need to verify the structural integrity right now, and consider the safety ramifications and look whether there’s a better way to install it,” said Tim Thimmesch, associate vice president of facilities services.

The steel ball, which hangs from about 15-feet of steel cable, had been in place outside the Seymour and Esther Padnos Hall of Science for the past 18 years, he said. It was taken to a storage unit off campus. (Via Michigan Live)

Meanwhile, because no good story can end without a Twitter parody, there is now a GVSU Wrecking Ball account retweeting students who are upset about the removal of the sculpture.
