Paul Rudd Is Now Definitely Probably Going To Be In Edgar Wright’s ‘Ant-Man’

A little bit of Paul Rudd in the Marvel Cinematic Universe can’t be a bad thing. After several rumors and denials, it seems that Rudd is almost set to play Hank Pym in Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. The Wrap reported the exclusive details:

In recent interviews to promote Anchorman 2 as well as his recent stint hosting Saturday Night Live, Rudd has appeared noticeably slimmer, and sources tell TheWrap that’s because he’s training for the physical role of Ant-Man.

Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have been considered the frontrunners for the coveted role since October, though Gordon-Levitt has appeared in several comic book adaptations and is gearing up for another one in WB’s Sandman. Rudd is more of a natural fit for the comedic character, and his “SNL” episode represented a season high in terms of viewers.

We are already well aware of Rudd’s penchant for heroics, but will he be enough to convince wary fans to see a movie about Ant-Man? First you have to remember that this is all still speculation until Rudd signs on the line that is dotted. And even though Edgar Wright is directing, will people stay away from a movie about a man who can get tiny and control ants?

With Rudd, Wright and a tie-in to The Avengers 2, I think that Ant-Man has a chance of being a success. They certainly sold me on a Guardians of the Galaxy movie.
