The Pope Is Selling His Harley-Davidson… Wait, What?

The name’s Pope Francis and he rocks the telly. He’s half Joe Camel and a third Fonzarelli. He’s the Kung-Fu hippie, from Gangsta City. He’s a rappin’ surfer, you the fool he pities. At least that’s what I imagine the children say about Pope Francis, who keeps surprising everyone with his hip and edgy ways, and today’s big revelation about the Catholic Church’s numero uno on Earth is that not only does he own a Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide, complete with an autographed gas tank, but he’s selling it next month to raise some money for charity.

A little back story: Harley-Davidson actually presented the Pope with this motorcycle last June, along with two others for his police, as thousands of Harley riders gathered at the Vatican so Francis could bless them before a mass for the day of Evangelium Vitae. The event marked the 110th anniversary of the motorcycle company, and the Pope was wishing them all safety and luck on their rides.

So why is the holiest man with the almighty plan re-gifting this bike anyway?

“Funds raised by the sale will go towards the renovation of the charity’s Don Luigi di Liegro hostel and soup kitchen based at Rome’s Termini railway station,” Bonhams said in a statement.

The bike’s worth is estimated between $17,770 and $20,500.

“We are incredibly honored to be selling this item on behalf of Caritas Roma. We hope to be able to do both Pope Francis and Harley-Davidson proud by raising a significant amount of money for a very worthy cause,” said Ben Walker, head of the motorcycles division at Bonhams. (Via ABC News)

The motorcycle and an autographed leather jacket will be auctioned of February 6 (if you buy them, send us a photo!), but I’ll be holding out for the Pope’s holy pair of golden rollerblades. I’m trying to win the favor of the man in charge by reducing my carbon footprint.
