Hold on a minute, UPROXX readers…don’t click “purchase” on that on that order of generic viagra from that shady online pharmacy just yet. The answer to all your problems may be a trip to your local grocery store’s produce section away because watermelon is now being touted as “nature’s Viagra.”
Add another snack to the list of foods to eat before sex: according to two studies from the University of Florida and Italy’s University of Foggia, watermelon is so good for blood circulation that it can reduce hypertension and relieve erectile dysfunction. It has only 71 calories per serving, is high in vitamin C, and is packed with potassium.
The key, apparently, is an amino acid called citrulline, which watermelon happens to be rich in. It was a scientist at Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center that many credit with first noting citrulline’s ability to improve circulation.
“The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,” said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center, told Science Daily in 2008. “We’ve always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.”
Um, pass the watermelon? Meanwhile, this girl was way ahead of the curve…
