Britney Spears Did Something Truly Fascinating On Twitter Last Night

Britney Spears has apparently spent most of this summer getting in shape for the next leg of dates for her “Piece of Me” Vegas show, which begins next week. She wanted to share her progress with her swarm of adoring, very excitable fans on Twitter, so she sent out the following tweet at 6:22 PM ET last night.

I want to be very clear about what is going on here: Britney Spears tweeted out a cell phone picture — flash on — of her computer, so she could show her followers the professional-produced picture that was on the screen. A screen, presumably, that also contains icons that say things like “Internet Explorer” or “Mozilla Firefox” or “Google Chrome,” one of which can be used to access the Internet and send said picture as an image that was uploaded to Twitter.com. This is fascinating.

It also brings up an important question: Is … is this a selfie? My gut reaction was to say no, but according to the Oxford dictionary a selfie is “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website,” and this is kind of that, technically, isn’t it? It’s a photograph of a photograph of herself. It’s an Inception selfie. Always changing the game, that Britney.
