Facebook cofounder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted on the social network Friday night that for 2015, he has decided to take on the challenge of reading a new book every other week. To coincide with this announcement, a Facebook page has been created called “A Year of Books,” where anyone can check in to see what subject matter is being read that week and join in on the discussion of said book in the comments section.

In his Facebook update, Zuckerberg explained why he chose books as his new year’s resolution:

I’ve found reading books very intellectually fulfilling. Books allow you to fully explore a topic and immerse yourself in a deeper way than most media today. I’m looking forward to shifting more of my media diet towards reading books.

The first book on the agenda is The End of Power by Moisés Naím:

It’s a book that explores how the world is shifting to give individual people more power that was traditionally only held by large governments, militaries and other organizations. The trend towards giving people more power is one I believe in deeply, and I’m looking forward to reading this book and exploring this in more detail. (Via)

Before you start your new reading assignment, let’s recap how Mark Zuckerberg tackled previous New Year’s Resolutions:

  1. He challenged himself to meet a new person outside of Facebook every day
  2. He learned to speak Mandarin
  3. He chose to wear a tie every day
  4. He decided to only eat meat that he personally killed

So…uh…how’s your New Year’s Resolution treating you?
