Why Does This Morning News Anchor’s Tearful Goodbye Make It Sound Like She’s Dying?

Amie McLain has provided the Richmond area with a bright smile every morning as part of the 8News’ Good Morning Richmond program on WRIC. But recently she decided to leave the news desk for good, making yesterday her final day before she heads off to follow her dreams.

But as you watch the clip, you get the sense that co-anchor Morgan Dean missed the memo on why McLain is leaving. He treats the entire goodbye like a funeral, bursting into tears almost immediately and causing McLain to start crying as well.

Luckily she isn’t going to the great beyond just yet. Instead, she’s off to India for some missionary work.  That’s because McLain is leaving 8News and following her passion to join the ministry. From WRIC:

Amie will serve as Executive Media Director at her church, Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries. This opportunity will allow her more time to devote to her faith, church and missionary trips. It’s also paving the way for Amie and her husband to open their own church one day.

Amie joined WRIC in 2009 and has worked tirelessly as a reporter, morning anchor and ambassador for the station in the community.

Her last day is Friday, January 16. Amie will then head to India on a missionary trip with her church a few days later.

Best of luck to McClain on her journey. Hopefully someone got Dean a box of tissues and some makeup because there’s still a job to do on his end. Ron Burgundy would be disappointed.
