A Florida Man Shot His Wife’s Friend For Inappropriate Facebook Use

Christopher Romoleroux loves his wife so much that he checks her texts, writes to anyone who seems suspicious, and then meets them with a gun in his hand. Sadly for Romoleroux, the law takes a dim view of such romantic gestures.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that Romoleroux was charged with attempted murder after he tried to kill Clarence Autley for Facebook messaging with his wife, Ludwika Duarte. Autley and Duarte are “old acquaintances” who haven’t spoken in six years. They were just getting back in touch on social media when Romoleroux put a painful end to that:

At about 9:30 a.m., Autley received a text message from the same number he had been texting earlier that morning, the affidavit said. The person sending the message asked Autley to meet up and hang out.

Assuming the text was from Duarte, Autley replied with his address, the affidavit said. While waiting in his driveway for Duarte to arrive, Autley saw a silver four-door car with tinted windows stopped in the street in front of his house.

That is never good. But it gets even more ridiculous:

The driver got out of the car, started to punch Autley and yelled, “Why you trying to get with my woman?” The two grappled in the street until Autley’s neighbor intervened.

The driver walked back to his car, grabbed a small-caliber black handgun, then fired once, striking Autley in his left thigh, the affidavit said. He then drove off in the silver car.

He can tint his windows all he likes, but someone should have told Romoleroux that when a dude’s expecting a woman to show up and an angry guy appears instead, anyone with half a mind would be able to put two and two together — not to mention the “get with my woman” bit. Romoleroux was arrested quickly and is now awaiting trial.

The only person who’s even remotely optimistic about this is Romoleroux’s lawyer, who has her own opinion of her client’s charges:

“The injury is to the leg,” Jean said in a phone interview. “If somebody really wants to kill someone, they’re going to aim somewhere else, not the leg. I’m not minimizing it, but it’s not life-threatening.”

Okay, then.
