A London Cake Maker Made A Fully Edible Garden That’s Straight Out Of Willy Wonka

Do you remember the scene in Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory — Gene Wilder, version of course — where Charlie and the crew got to eat every square inch of the chocolate factory garden? Remember the jealousy you felt? Well, according to Metro, one London cake maker made some local residents’ childhood fantasies come true with her creation of an edible garden straight out of the world of Wonka:

Visitors were encouraged to help themselves to the flora and fauna, made up of Bourbon biscuit borders, chocolate crumb soil, 250 cake flowers and hundreds of chocolate pebbles.

You could even lick the walls, which were built with 1,300 slices of fruit loaf and grouted with Nutella.

In total, the heavenly urban idyll features 15 different types of cake, including stepping stones made from Battenberg and a bird bath made from slices of Swiss roll.

The garden, which took 450 hours to bake, was the brainchild of renowned cake designer Rosalind Miller. She used it to celebrate the Carole Matthews paperback version of The Cake Shop in the Garden, which I’m assuming all of you will be clamoring to buy after you’re done reading this.

While this wasn’t exactly an homage to the Willy Wonka garden, the comparison is inescapable. I just hope that lousy Veruca Salt didn’t show up. She’s always up to no damn good.
