Meet The Woman Whose Brain Tumor Was Really Her Evil Twin

A 26-year-old woman with a brain tumor has discovered that what was living deep inside her head wasn’t a disease — it was an evil twin that was trying to kill her. Sound like an episode of The Twilight Zone? Well, for Yamini Karanam this weird tale is just too real.

Karanam says that her twin has been giving her problems all her life, but last year she really began to feel the effects of something wrong with her brain. She stopped being able to comprehend what she read and, in an even more troubling twist, she stopped being able to understand the people around her. She told NBC Los Angeles:

“If a couple people were talking in a room, I wouldn’t understand what was happening.”

She visited doctors, but according to her, no one was giving her the information she needed. That’s when she found a doctor with a new procedure that involved sticking an endoscope into her brain and chipping away at the tumor. The good news? No cancer. The bad news? Lots of hair and bones and teeth. Even her doctor, Hrayr Shahinian, was shocked:

“This is my second one, and I’ve probably taken out 7,000 or 8,000 brain tumors,” Shahinian said.

Karanam is expected to recover physically after three weeks. Psychologically? Well, how do you recover from waking up after surgery and learning that you absorbed your own twin in the womb? And that it’s spent all it’s life trying to get you back? Look out for that horror movie next summer.
