Just a fair warning that it’s about to get pretty dusty up in here. An 81-year-old cancer patient, Clarence Blackmon, returned to his Fayetteville, N.C. home on Tuesday after spending several months in cancer treatment and rehab. However, when Blackmon, who has no immediate family in the area, arrived home, he had no food in the house and was physically unable to go out and get any.
Helpless, he called 911 and asked the operator if someone could bring him some food. While some 911 operators may have dismissed his call, Blackmon thankfully reached a kind woman named Marilyn Hinson, who — with her supervisor’s permission — brought Blackmon some groceries accompanied by two Fayetteville police officers, reports ABC 11 Eyewitness News.
“He was hungry,” Hinson said. “I’ve been hungry. A lot of people can’t say that, but I can, and I can’t stand for anyone to be hungry.”
Blackmon told Hinson that all he wanted was a head of cabbage, some cans of beans and beets, some popcorn, tomato juice, and soft drinks.
She made Blackmon a ham sandwich, which he called a feast. She also made him a couple more sandwiches for later on. Blackmon called it a blessing.
In addition to his story going viral, which will likely lead to others reaching out to lend some help, Blackmon will have a home health nurse who will stop by twice a week, so it looks like he’ll be well cared for. Faith in humanity restored.
