A 22-year-old college student is having trouble paying for the remainder of her tuition after admittedly blowing through her $90,000 college savings on clothes and travel expenses.

Kim, who declined to give her last name, called into The Bert Show, an Atlanta-based morning radio program, and admitted to the hosts that she burned through the college savings her grandparents had set aside for her, and now she’s thousands of dollars short for her senior year’s tuition.

That’s a shame. I suppose it could easily happen to anyone. Well, anyone lucky enough to have grandparents who are able and willing to give a college student access to a bloated savings account. Regardless, you’d think with an early-life mistake as huge as this, Kim would show some remorse for blowing all that money, right? Think again. She was perfectly willing to point the finger of blame at her parents, according to Mashable.

“Maybe they should have taught me how to budget a little bit more,” Kim said. “They never sat me down and had a serious talk about it.”

That’s certainly an interesting way of looking at it. However, to be fair to Kim’s parents, it probably wasn’t until recently that they realized their daughter was irresponsible and selfish. You live and learn.

You’ll be happy to know, though, that since Kim first aired her story, her parents have reached a compromise with her by agreeing to cosign on a loan that will pay for her senior year on the condition that she finally gets a job. So, all’s well that ends well, and time for some contrition from our young hero, right?

“I just want to say that I know [my parents are] trying to teach me a lesson and blah blah blah and character building,” said Kim about her parents cosigning on a loan and forcing her to get a job, “but I hope they realize that this could have such a negative effect on my grades and as a person. I won’t be focused on my studies.”

Or she could take that approach. Is anyone surprised?
