The zombie fish apocalypse is upon us. A couple found out the hard way how our dead fish overlords will never succumb to puny humans. A man named Ed Cupp posted this video to YouTube. The clip isn’t popping fresh (and neither is the fish), but the internet has newly discovered the bowfin fish who refuses to die.
Yes, the fish is gutted and decapitated. Cupp filmed his wife as she cleaned their prospective dinner. The woman received quite a fright as the fish began to resist her efforts, even after much of its corporeal existence washed down the drain. As his wife recoiled in disgust, Cupp joyously exclaimed, “There ain’t no way this is real!”
The zombie effect of this fish is all too real. According to a few astute YouTube commenters, fish bodies can be controlled by a spinal cord alone. When the woman touched a certain nerve, the pressure set off a signal that ran down the fish’s spinal cord. It’s alive.
What’s even creepier than the initial video? Cupp posted a subsequent video, filmed 30 minutes later, and the fish continued to hop away from the woman. We’ll never know if the fish allowed itself to be eaten.
