Why Does Anyone Care What Bristol Palin Thinks About Ahmed Mohamed?

If you were lucky enough to go outside and appreciate the world around you, and not spend all day on the internet scrolling through hate-filled thoughts from complete strangers, you might have missed the story of Ahmed Mohamed. To recap: Ahmed is a 14-year-old student at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas (a town with a mayor who is no stranger to Muslim controversy), or rather he was. He won’t be returning to school after he was suspended and detained by police because his English teacher reported his homemade clock as a bomb, and police believed that his device was intended to be a “hoax bomb.” Social media reaction to Mohamed’s story was insane, and within hours he was the most talked about teen since one of those One Direction kids. Barack Obama eventually invited Ahmed to the White House (or at least made a nice Twitter gesture), and that’s when sh*t really hit the homemade fan.

Because there are so many people who still believe, in this two-term home stretch, that the President of the United States has a Muslim agenda, Average Islamophobic Joes are going insane on Twitter and even right in front of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump. Some 13-year-old Ted Cruz supporter has piggybacked Ahmed’s situation to get his own 15 minutes, and now, finally, the always-opinionated Bristol Palin has weighed in, accusing the President of encouraging “more racial strife that is already going on with the Black Lives Matter crowd.” The Dancing with the Stars reject believes that treating someone like Ahmed as a hero simply enables and “encourages victimhood.” Ironically, even writing about Bristol Palin’s pointless thoughts does exactly the same damn thing.

For more on the ridiculousness of people getting HOT TAKES from Bristol or any other Palin, anchors Tom Storey and Briana Lane weigh in on today’s episode of The Desk.
