An 80-Year-Old Texas Man Built A Train To Take Rescue Dogs On Adventures

Eugene Bostick retired 15 years ago and is now 80 years old, living with his brother on a dead-end street in Texas where many dogs are abandoned. They’ve been taking the dogs in to feed them and take care of them, but with all that time on his hands — to say nothing of his great, big heart — he could do something a little more fun. So he built the dogs a train.

A train. For doggies. To go on adventures around town.

Eugene Bostick is the best guy ever. We are always faced with a choice between being a jerk and being a hero, and Bostick chose to be a hero, because that’s when everyone wins:

“One day I was out and I seen this guy with a tractor who attached these carts to pull rocks. I thought, ‘Dang, that would do for a dog train,'” said Bostick. “I’m a pretty good welder, so I took these plastic barrels with holes cut in them, and put wheels under them and tied them together. …

“I’m getting up in age. I’m 80 now, so I suppose it can’t last too much longer, but I’ll keep it going as long as I can,” said Bostick. “The dogs have a great time. They just really enjoy it.”

The dog train is a big hit around town, and it’s easy to see why: Happy dogs spread happiness to people.
