An Alabama Teacher Is Probably Regretting His Decision To Dress In Blackface For This ‘Kanye West’ Costume

A fifth-grade teacher at the Chestnut Grove Elementary School in Alabama has possibly found himself in some hot water due to a photo that surfaced on Reddit over the weekend of his and his wife’s Halloween couples costume, which quickly went viral. Heath Morrow’s wife Shannon not-so-smartly posted the photo on Facebook of the two of them dressed as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West (holding a timely “Kanye for Prez 2020” sign, natch) with the caption, “Haha some people thought Heath was really a black man.” That would be because Heath and Shannon are both, in fact, white people.

Morrow has since either removed the image or made it private, but because taking something off the internet is like taking pee out of a swimming pool; it had already been captured for posterity by imgur:

Since the photo was just posted to Reddit on Sunday and it is now Monday morning, it’s unclear at this time whether Morrow faces disciplinary action from the school district. But since the city of Decatur recently faced backlash over hiring its first black fire chief in 2014 (which locals claim is about qualifications and not racism), I wouldn’t hold my breath for it.

At the very least, thanks to the inevitable public shaming to follow, Morrow will certainly have learned why blackface is never, ever a good idea by the time this is all over.
