This testosterone-filled gem from the BDC (the Buff Dudes Channel) stands as an accurate parody of gym culture. In fact, for anyone who’s set foot in a gym, the faux-documentary is painfully perceptive. From the opening lines — “The Gym. Millions of homo sapiens frequent this urban wilderness” — any fitness buff knows what’s coming next. In fact, the dominoes fall too predictably, but that’s what makes the vid so satisfying. Viewers will recognize all of these gym species, so the audience connection with the filmmakers begins. Watching the various species interact is equally as hilarious for experts as it will be for novices.
The filmmakers hit every target — from members who aren’t too committed to the women who wear too much makeup, the men who strut like peacocks, and the groups of selfie-taking teenagers — and yes, all of those groups do exist. In addition, “the rare females who have dared to step off the safety of the treadmills and set foot in this harsh free-weight terrain” will find solace in knowing the leering men at their gym are not an anomaly.
As a warning for those who aren’t prepared, sh*t gets real at the 2:50 mark. The “primal dominance” man loses his cool while the grunters embarrass themselves in Larry the Cable Guy attire. All of these species do exist, but somehow, the Jersey Shore species went missing. Perhaps they went extinct.
