A Canadian Town Is Wisely Doing Away With Its ‘Land Of Rape And Honey’ Slogan

From Dildo, Newfoundland to Dicktown, New Jersey, it’s pretty commonplace to see some crazy city names from time to time. So, it should probably come as no surprise that town slogans can also be a bit off-putting. A great example of this is the town of Tisdale in Saskatchewan, Canada. According to Metro, over 60 years ago Tisdale created a creepy-as-hell slogan that is still around today: “Land of Rape and Honey.”

Now you might wonder,”Why the hell would a town make itself the worldwide center of sexual assault?” While an excellent question, the explanation is not as crazy as you would think:

Rather than sexual assault, the slogan cites the harvesting of rapeseed which was a large part of the town’s economy many years ago.

After noticing hundreds of people using the town’s signs as a goofy photo-op over the years, the Tisdale Economic Development Office decided enough was enough and created an online questionnaire for residents to help choose a new slogan. The survey offers up some pretty lame and safe suggestions overall, but it does keep “Land of Rape and Honey” as a sentimental throwback pick.

It’s probably good that Tisdale is looking for a less offensive trademark. Though, if it does stay, Tisdale does seem like a nice place for Darren Sharper to settle down in one day.
