A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay – October 14th

Welcome to Gamma Squad’s regular Friday comic book cosplay feature, spotlighting the best superhero (and villain) related costuming from the cosplay community.  We’re casting the spotlight onto those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.
Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.
The theme for the upcoming month is:

  • Batman: Friends and Foes
  • But in the meantime, let’s continue with this week’s selection.

Black Cat cosplay by Bethany Maddock. Photo by reekavalentyne. Submitted to our Flickr Group.

Bethany looks like she’s literally kicking ass in this cosplay and small wonder she caught our attention. Thanks for a fantastic submission!

Wonder Woman cosplay by VictoriaCosplay. Photo by Stephen Smith. Source: Flickr

A great shot adds to what was already a fabulous take on Diana.

Deadpool cosplay at Emerald City Comic-Con 2011. Photo by Lanze.Monares. Source: Flickr

A stand-out Deadpool cosplayer, really flexing his Liefeldian physique. Although what the monkey’s done to deserve this, we do not know.

Silver Banshee cosplay by Naga Zmeyuka. Photo by Duo Maxwell. Source: Deviantart.

An awesome cosplay of a lesser-known DC character. But, as this cosplay proves, obscure doesn’t mean  she’s unimpressive.

Rogue cosplay by peregrintook310. Submitted to our Flickr Group.

Rogue’s rocking her classic look in this amazing cosplay. It’s a hell of a costume. Jim Lee would be proud.

Judge Dredd cosplay by Wake Carter. Photo by Carlos F. Submitted to our Flickr Group.

With Judge Dredd’s movie adaptation in the news, it seemed appropriate to include this great shot of an equally eye-catching cosplayer.

Valkyrie cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by Paul Cory. Source: Flickr

Another great costume from a con that produced some real gold in the realm of cosplay. This take on the Avengers and Defenders character is definitely among them.

Black Canary scream by AlisaKiss. Photo by BGZstudios. Source: Deviantart

There’s never a shortage of Black Canary cosplay, but we’re featuring Alisa’s take because of the great action shot. Awesome cosplay and photography combine.

Young Avengers cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011 featuring RaptorAdapter and other members of TheSuperheroCostumingForum.

This superb group of cosplayers are another gang who made this year’s Dragon*Con the place to be for kick-ass cosplay. A real collection of wonderful costumes here.

Jimmy Olsen cosplay by cry-baby-cry on Deviantart. Source: Deviantart.

Superman’s pal, Jimmy Olsen, might be an unusual choice for a cosplayer, but it just shows, you don’t need a huge budget and spandex to come up with a cool comics-related costume. Although in Jimmy’s case, cool may not apply.
