A-Trak, Kimbra & Mark Foster – “Warrior” Video

A few weeks ago, a friend of mine tipped me off to the jazzy vocal stylings of alternative pop artist Kimbra, a 22-year-old New Zealand singer with a fast-rising profile this side of the Pacific Ocean. Some cursory research showed that my friend wasn’t the only one taken by her music – the video for “Somebody That I Used to Know,” her collaboration with Belgian-Australian indie rocker Gotye, has a whopping 144 million views on YouTube.

But there are still people like me out there, avid music listeners who would have trouble identifying more than a couple of songs in the top 10 of the Billboard charts. So the promotion wheels roll on. Ahead of the May 22nd U.S. release date for her debut album, Vows (released in New Zealand and Australia last fall), Kimbra links up with DJ A-Trak and Foster the People frontman Mark Foster for the latest entry in CONVERSE’s “Three Artists. One Song.” series.

“Warrior,” the end result of the trio’s efforts, is an unabashedly fun synthpop tune that comes complete with a Mexican wrestling-inspired video. It also might be the most instantly likeable song I’ve from heard Kimbra so far, the kind of thing that might sell listeners who are still on the fence.
