An Abused Woman Being Held Hostage Used Pizza Hut’s Mobile App To Call For Help

A mother of three may have saved her life and the lives of her children earlier this week, thanks to the Pizza Hut app on her phone. The victim’s boyfriend and father of her children, 26-year-old Ethan Nickerson, had been allegedly keeping her hostage with a large knife for most of the day on Monday after the couple had been arguing.

Nickerson, who was suspected to be high on meth at the time, took the victim’s cell phone, but agreed to briefly give it back to her so she could order a pizza through Pizza Hut’s mobile app. As Tampa Bay’s WFLA8 News reports, that’s when the resourceful mother sprung into action.

Pizza Hut employees recognized the order as being from a frequent customer. But, the comments were out of the ordinary so they called the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office to investigate the situation.

“We’ve never seen that before,” the restaurant’s manager, Candy Hamilton, said. “I’ve been here 28 years and never, never seen nothing like that come through.”

This isn’t the first time a woman has been able to save herself in a domestic abuse situation this way. Last October, a woman who called 911 pretending to order a pizza was able to discreetly get help, thanks to a intuitive dispatcher.
