Andrew Bynum To Undergo Surgery, Ending Season With Sixers

Philadelphia fans hoping to continue watching their same crummy team gasp for breath as the NBA’s regular season finish line approaches are in luck. Andrew Bynum – Philly’s prized offseason acquisition and known hair-troll – will undergo season-ending arthroscopic knee surgery shattering the hope that an appearance would, at the very least, make the Sixers watchable for the last chunk of basketball.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the sketchy details surrounding his continued injury history, but it’s a shame nonetheless. A healthy Bynum still has “franchise player” potential, and considering the continued development of Jrue Holiday, the parts are already there for a very competitive team. Not saying that Philadelphia is a perfect team with a better big man (*looks at Royal Ivey’s starting spot on the depth chart, chuckles*), but they would have to be on par with Chicago and Milwaukee, right?

Where this crazy marriage goes is anyone’s guess. Needless to say, David Lee, Bynum’s agent, has some tricky negotiations to navigate, with the young center – still only 25 – hitting the market as an unrestricted free agent. Is Philly really ready to give up on their prized import?
