Anwan Glover From ‘The Wire’ Has A Message About Baltimore Residents: ‘We’re Not Thugs’

The riots in Baltimore continue to be a divisive issue, as the vitriol being spit out by both the media and public has not helped in diffusing the situation. So, it is always good when a famous face can provide a voice in bringing some reason to an otherwise unfortunate event. Actor Anwan Glover, who famously played Slim Charles on The Wire , was stopped by TMZ for a brief interview regarding the riots.

Glover was more than happy to share some thoughts:

Glover — who played Slim Charles in the iconic HBO series set in Baltimore — said he believes President Obama needs to become even more involved than he has been, to provide leadership for the city.

He also says if Slim were in Baltimore right now, he’d be using his “power in the street” to organize the youth and put a stop to the violence.

Glover definitely has strong ties to the area, being a D.C. native, and starring in a show that heavily filmed in Baltimore. His biggest message, though, regarded people looking to unfairly label the cities’ peaceful residents: “Were not thugs.”

It’s awful that the violent actions of a few misguided individuals have to smear the good intentions of those looking to peacefully exercise their first amendment rights. Hopefully, we’ll see more positive messages like Anwan’s in the near future.
