‘Assassin’s Creed IV’ Gets Serious With It’s First Story DLC ‘Freedom Cry’

One of the things a lot of people appreciated about Assassin’s Creed IV was that it wasn’t as dour as some previous games in the series, but it looks like things are getting grim again with ACIV’s first major chunk of story DLC, Freedom Cry.

Freedom Cry stars Edward Kenway’s first mate Adewale, a former slave who sets out to free other Caribbean slaves. It’s certainly a part of the Golden Age of Piracy rarely explored, and Adewale makes for a radically different assassin, but still, did we really have to go and get all serious again Ubisoft? I guess that’s the double-edged blade of being historically accurate — most history tends to be pretty grim stuff.

Looks good, although personally I’d love to see them break out the neon again and do the Blood Dragon thing with an Assassin’s Creed game.
