There are certain things coded into our DNA, things that we’ve yet to fully grasp about humans and the human condition, which is truly fascinating. Somehow, some way, humans have been afflicted with this innate desire to see other human beings fail in hilarious ways and getting themselves hurt. The fact that America’s Funniest Home Videos (now branded as AFV) not only still exists, but people still watch it and find it funny is proof of that. That isn’t a learned behavior, it’s simply there.
This video from Reddit proves that point rather well. This is a baby, with his dad at a skatepark, and witnesses a skater slamming into some pesky kid on a scooter and slamming into the ground. The baby’s reaction? Pure glee. Nobody taught this boy to laugh at the misfortune of others, yet, there he is, with an angelic smile upon his face letting loose an adorable giggle.
So the next time you are scolded or called too immature for laughing at something as innocent and pure as someone falling on their ass, remind the world that even babies find it hilarious, that it’s hardwired into our brains to find this funny. In fact, it is those that don’t find it funny that have the problem, right?
