Bacon-Flavored Seaweed Now Exists Because Dreams Do Come True

Benevolent researchers at Oregon State University have cultivated the most wonderful food product. Imagine being able to chow down on authentically bacon-flavored food while reaping the mega-health benefits of seaweed. Soon, you may be able to enjoy the best of these two worlds.

Researcher Chris Langdon led the charge in cultivating a new form of red marine algae. You can see a photo of the stuff here. It may not look like much more than red lettuce, but this algae (called “dulse”) can grow in the wild on both U.S. coastlines. Researchers insist this stuff is so packed with nutrients that it’s twice as healthy as the currently trendy kale. Antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and bacon-flavored taste? Yesss.

These scientists aren’t joking around. Once fried, this algae emits “a pretty strong bacon flavor.” Langdon has worked for 15 years to achieve this development. He hopes to soon start producing the stuff as a commercial operation, which should be pretty easy. All seaweed needs to grow is sunshine and water. And all your mouth needs is bacon.
