Benedict Cumberbatch is a guest on tomorrow’s edition of Katie to promote his new film, The Fifth Estate, which tells the story of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, who has already made his opinions of the film quite clear. In a clip for tomorrow’s show, Katie Couric asks the question that so many of us have often wondered about – “Hey Benedict, what’s up with your awesome, fancy name?” and he lets us in on how Benedict Pumpkin Patch actually saved his career from oblivion early on.
It turns out that Cumberbatch used to go by Benedict Carlton, which is one of his middle names (*straightens monocle*), but he didn’t find much work with that, so he decided to go with his actual full name, even though it sounds like, as he so eloquently puts it, “a fart in a bath tub.”
