Brace yourselves. Donald Trump said something stupid at a rally. I know. It’s hard to believe. But stay with me.

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for President of the United States of America (and oh God I can’t believe I’m even typing that), claimed he’s a better LGBT ally than Hillary Clinton while bloviating at a rally in Atlanta, Georgia.

Trump took a break from insulting Veterans and not paying taxes and implying Obama is an ISIS spy and being the best pilot to say — and we can’t even make this up:

“Ask the gays what they think and what they do, in, not only Saudi Arabia, but many of these countries, and then you tell me: Who’s your friend, Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton?”

The side-eyes and hoots of derision were quick and heavy on Twitter. And as one of “the gays,” it falls to me to wade through Twitter looking for responses from fellow the-gays, responses which consisted of an unusual (but welcome) quantity of GIFs of Lucille Bluth from Arrested Development. This is my job. What a time to be alive.

For the context of the quote, Trump was ripping on Clinton for the Clinton Foundation accepting donations from donors in countries with anti-gay laws. Although, to be fair, America has anti-gay laws, too. Some of those laws have been repealed, but maybe the Donald can reinstate them while he’s making America great again. Wonderful.

Anyway, to the jokes. Trump implored people to “ask the gays,” and ask them we have:
